AURORA outbound from Lisbon

Despite her sad looking blue and bowflag livery, the AURORA still provides a very pleasant profile seen here underway on the evening of 8 September 2016, outbound from the river Tagus after another day alongside Lisbon Cruise Terminal. It is hard to believe AURORA is already 16 year old. Photographs by Luís Miguel Correia as usual. Texto e imagens /Text and images copyright L.M.Correia. Favor não piratear. ARTEMIS in Lisbon 2009-10-28

The Lisbon evening light enveloped the departing P&O ship ARTEMIS on 28 October 2009.

She has just left the Alcântara cruise terminal and the photos were taken from nearby Junqueira waterfront.

Now 25 year-old, the Wartsila-built ARTEMIS was the first ship purpose built for Princess Cruises and was introduced in 1984 as ROYAL PRINCESS. To see more P&O ships in Lisbon click here...
Her next name change is set for April 2011 on delivery to Phoenix Reisen as ARTANIA.

VENTURA leaving Lisbon on 2009-04-20

The P&O Cruises new flagship VENTURA leaving Lisbon on 20 April 2009.
The Italian-built mega cruise ship was introduced in 2008 and is based on the PRINCESS CRUISES ships of the GRAND PRINCESS class and related developments, with several changes geared to the more conservative U.K. market.
This particular ship would look better with a more conventional funnel or with the present funnel fully painted in buff. A sister ship, to be named AZURA is on order from Fincantieri for delivery in 2010.

P&O ARCADIA leaving LISBON

The Italian-built P&O cruise ship ARCADIA (laid down as QUEEN VICTORIA), leaving Lisbon (Santa Apolonia cruise terminal) on 4th October 2006 photographed by Luís Miguel Correia.
The light was not at its best, with clouds, but the sun did show for a few moments, thus the difference in light between the photos.
Since 1975, when I started photographing the passenger shipping scene in Lisbon regularly, this is the third different P&O ARCADIA I have been able to photograph... The first one was the John Brown-built ARCADIA of 1954, a very traditional post-war P&O liner. Later on I did also photograph the French-built ARCADIA ex-STAR PRINCESS, when she replaced the CANBERRA cruising out of Southampton, and now this elegant would be Cunarder.

MORE P&O cruise ships in Lisbon

The P&O cruise ships ARTEMIS and OCEANA photographed in Lisbon on 19 and 20 September 2006 by Luís Miguel Correia.

It is hard to realize that the ARTEMIS is now 22 year old specialy because it means that my tenth 5-year survey is due in a very short term. I can not blame, for it has been a life full of ships in all possible ways, and in a positive mood I look forward for the ships I'll be able to photograph over the next fifty years...

P&O beauty, the AURORA looks as elegant as ever leaving Lisbon after another cruise call on 12 September 2006 (Luis Miguel Correia copyright photos)

The ORIANA in Lisbon 11 September 2006

I was lucky to be able to first photograph the new ORIANA on her inaugural cruise in 1995 and have repeatedly photographed her since then, including her last arrival in Lisbon on 11 September 2006.
