DISCOVERY nearing her end...
Cruise ship DISCOVERY departing from Lisbon on 18 September 2014. She is going to do her final cruise soon and afterwards she is bound for scrap after a career spanning along 42 years and several names.

JASON in Lisbon 7 August 1993
The handsome Greek cruise ship JASON arriving Lisbon on 7 August 1993 on a cruise around Europe chartered by German operator Phoenix Reisen who already operated the MAXIM GORKIY since 1988. JASON was built in Italy as the third of three sisters delivered in 1965-66 to the Hellenic Board of Tourism (Greek Government) and built alongside EUGENIO C in Monfalcone.
Jason was delivered on 22 February 1966 as the passenger ro-ro ferry EROS and sold the same year to Epirotiki Lines who renamed her JASON and converted the ship for cruising. She had a long career under the Epirotiki houseflag cruising in the Greek Isles and a bit around most of the world, from the North Cape to the Caribbean. In 2005 she became the OCEAN ODYSSEY following sale to Indian interests and in fact inSeptember 2006 she started a brief caree cruising in India waters but on 29 July 2009 she arrived at Alang for breaking up. MSC OPERA and FUNCHAL in Lisbon
The cruise ships MSC OPERA and FUNCHAL passing eachother on the river Tagus off Lisbon Santa Apolónia Cruise Terminal on the afternoon of 2 September 2014.
The FUNCHAL arrived from Falmouth and departed at midnight for Malaga while the MSC OPERA made another of her regular calls on the program od summer cruises she is operating visiting Lisbon every ten days.
