The brand-new cruise ship COSTA LUMINOSA leaving the river Tagus on 31 May 2010 following the ship's inaugural call in Lisbon. She is the sister ship of COSTA LUMINOSA, a pair of twins based on the hull developed for Holland America Compass class and also used by P&O (ARCADIA) and Cunard with QUEEN VICTORIA and QUEEN ELIZABETH.

C. COLUMBUS in Lisbon 10 May 2010
The German cruise ship C. COLUMBUS photographed off Lisbon on 10 May 2010 following another call on a cruise around Western Europe. COLUMBUS is operated by Hapag-Lloyd and registerted in the Bahamas. She revives the name of the famous pre-WW2 North German Lloyd COLUMBUS.

SCANDINAVIAN SKY II in Lisbon

The day-cruise ship SCANDINAVIAN SKY II photographed in Lisbon in 26 March 1990 while on a technical call on her positioning voyage from Piraeus, Greece to England for a refit and conversion for cruising prior to the start of her day cruises in Florida for Sea Escape. She was a very beautiful former British Railways ferry, the St. GEORGE of 1968. (ST GEORGE 1968-1984, PATRA EXPRESS 1984-1990, SCANDINAVIAN SKY II 1990, SCANDINAVIAN DAWN 1990-1996, DISCOVERY DAWN 1996-1998, ISLAND DAWN 1998-1999, DISCOVERY DAWN 1999-2000, TEXAS TREASURE 2000-2008 - broken up in India in 2008)

SUN VIKING
When first introduced by Royal Caribbean in 1972, SUN VIKING was the third sister of the original trio of SONG OF NORWAY-class cruise ships.
After many years in the Caribbean waters, she was used overseas in order to develop new cruise markets, and so she visited Lisbon.Here she is leaving Lisbon on 16 May 1995.

MONA LISA in Lisbon

I was lucky to have been able to photograph this ship on her last visit to Lisbon in May 1975 still under the Swedish flag and later also under Flagship Cruises ownership and as P&O Cruises' VICTORIA.

CORAL ex-TRITON at sea 2009-11-28
The Cypriot cruise ship CORAL off the Portuguese coast on 20 November 2009 after a call to Lisbon. A former Cunarder (CUNARD ADVENTURER) she still shows the early Norwegian Caribbean Lines profile added when she was purchased from Cunard to become SUNWARD II. After many years on the Miami - Bahamas short cruise service she was sold to Epirotiki Lines as TRITON, later joinning the Royal Olympic Cruises fleet until sold to Louis after the failure of Olympic.

ARTEMIS in Lisbon 2009-10-28
She has just left the Alcântara cruise terminal and the photos were taken from nearby Junqueira waterfront.
Now 25 year-old, the Wartsila-built ARTEMIS was the first ship purpose built for Princess Cruises and was introduced in 1984 as ROYAL PRINCESS.

Her next name change is set for April 2011 on delivery to Phoenix Reisen as ARTANIA.

COSTA MAGICA 2009-09-16
COSTA MAGICA docking at the Rocha Cruise Ship Terminal, Lisbon, early in the morning of 16 September 2009. The Rocha Terminal was constructed in the mid 1940s and opened in 1948. It was used by Companhia Colonial and Insulana passenmger ships as well as foreign passenger liners and cruise ships then calling in Lisbon.
