BLACK PRINCE underway

Images of the veteran cruise ship BLACK PRINCE departing Lisbon on 5 August 2009, with only another two calls before delivery to future owners in Venezuela...
She will be missed in Lisbon as one of the few cruise ships visiting in the lower season months of January and February every year. But no more for 2010, although the remaining four Fred.Olsen fleet mates will continue to call in Lisbon... For more BLACK PRINCE in Lisbon click here.

BRAEMAR in Lisbon 2009-07-21

The cruise ship BRAEMAR called in Lisbon on 21 July 2009 when I took several photographs of her while docking at the Rocha Passenger Ship Terminal at about 9h20 AM.
A member of the Fred. Olsen cruise ships fleet since 2001, the BRAEMAR was rebuilt in Hamburg in May and June 2008 and her hull was enlarged with a new 31-meters section increasing gross tonnage to 24.344 GT from original 19.089 grt.
She was the second of two sisters built in Spain in 1992-93 for Crown Cruise Line as CROWN DINASTY (1993-1997) and sailed also with the following names: CROWN MAJESTY (1997), NORWEGIAN MAJESTY (1997-1999), again CROWN MAJESTY (1999-2001).

STAR ODYSSEY in Lisbon

Atmospheric black and white photograph of the cruise ship STAR ODYSSEY taken in Lisbon on 13 September 1996. After a call the ship is leaving the Alcântara cruise terminal. Note the bow damaged by bad weather.
The STAR ODYSSEY was built as ROYAL VIKING STAR in 1972 and sails today in the colours of Fred. Olsen as the BLACK WATCH.

VENTURA leaving Lisbon on 2009-04-20

The P&O Cruises new flagship VENTURA leaving Lisbon on 20 April 2009.
The Italian-built mega cruise ship was introduced in 2008 and is based on the PRINCESS CRUISES ships of the GRAND PRINCESS class and related developments, with several changes geared to the more conservative U.K. market.
This particular ship would look better with a more conventional funnel or with the present funnel fully painted in buff. A sister ship, to be named AZURA is on order from Fincantieri for delivery in 2010.

The Greek cruise ship (Malta flag) CLELIA II photographed leaving Lisbon at 7 PM on 3 June 2009 after a 3-day long call. The CLELIA II returned to Lisbon after a long absence but she had been in the Tagus a long time ago under the present name as well as in her original name RENAISSANCE FOUR. ATLANTIC STAR in Lisbon

Pullmantur's ATLANTIC STAR arriving in Lisbon on her final cruise of the present series on 31 May 2009. The ship is now berthed in Lisbon and sails on 11 June to Brazil on a positioning voyage.
